secures to then.
Whather, however, this arrangement would have the desired
effect I am unable to gay, as I am in possession of no inform8–
tion as to the present cost of maintaining the Agency or the
amount of its recsipte. Por the same reason I an at present
unable to make any suggestions as to dealing with the other
Agencies. I a: accordingly addressing a despatch to the
Governor of Hongkong, to whom I am also forwarding a copy of
this despatch requesting His Excellency to furnish ne with
information as to which of the Agencies show a profit, which
an equilibrium and which a logs, with details as to the cost of
the Agencies as at present managed, and on the receipt of his
reply, I shall have the honour to comunicate with you further
on this subject.
